StoryCircle
our creative writing classes present
personal story as an act of power, empathy,
and community building.
December 4, 2020
7:00 - 8:30 pm
This special reading and writing event upholds Wishes and personal story. We’ll dare to wish out loud in community. We’ll listen, write and accompany each other’s dreams.
Program
Each Creative Writing class elects a student to read aloud a 650 word personal creative nonfiction piece (written in the 1st person) centered on a wish. The final words of the piece should end with the following phrase, “I wish….[student’s wish].
The audience responds in a collective chat upholding the wishes of each student reader.
Note to Faculty
Be prepared to have ONE student representative (per creative writing class you are teaching) share their work. Because we have 10 classes presenting work, it is crucial to make sure that you do not exceed the 650 word limit.
Plan and practice your reading ahead of time.
Classes will present alphabetically according to the last name of the instructor.
Each story should begin with a 1 sentence introduction with your student reader saying their name, your name and the name of your class. (For ex. "My name is Natasha Chan and I'm happy to be reading for Beatrix Chavez's class "The Stuff of Fiction."
Make sure to have selected your student reader(s) latest by 11/30.
Logistics
All student readers should be in attendance 15 minutes early via Zoom at 6:45 pm on the day of performance. Before each reading, students will introduce themselves like so, "My name is...... and I'm representing [Name of Creative Writing Class].”
